"Number 1 in Sofia"
This is undoubtedly the best hotel in Sofia. As a regular traveller there I have stayed at the Kempinski, Grand hotel Sofia and the Sheraton. The Sheraton outshines all the others.
Location: There is no better. On the head of Vitosha Blvd
Building: Absolutely beautiful from the outside. Interior is grand and what you would expect from Luxury hotel.
Room: Always go for a deluxe room as the standard rooms are very small and the decor is old. The deluxe rooms are stunning and brand new. There is a large plasma, coffee table, sofa, armchair, desk. The rooms is about 60m2.
The bathrooms are marble and luxurious with many amenities.
The bed mattress is the most comfortable of any hotel in Sofia.
The food is very good. Try the steak sandwich in the lobby. Though Bulgaria has very good food and you will find many restaurants that are decently prices. Especially the hip cafe lavazza...a 2 minute walk away.
Never stay at the front facing room as you will be woken up to the sound of car alarms and sirens throughout the night. The rear is totally silent with a huge courtyard view.

"the renovated parts are nice"
the renovated parts of the hotel are very nice. i've had a suite which is beautiful and the normal rooms are fine too. they are renovating the restaurant and in the meantime the food is just okay, was better but expensive before.

"My Fav in Sofia"
As an ex-pat living about an hour east of Sofia, I frequently make weekend, (Saturday night) trips to Sofia. I've admittedly not stayed in every hotel in Sofia but by far I find the Sheraton my fav.
Location wise it is perfect, the rooms are the nicest I have seen in Bulgaria, (suites & regular rooms). The door staff, cleaning & others are all generally cheery and helpful.
A few critiques....the front desk is often understaffed and they usually provide the world renowned Bulgaria service and charm, (read: stale and stoic). Also, if you're parking there, it seems a bit pricey, but your options are certainly limited.
However, if you compare it with it's competition in the city, it's the best that I've stayed in.

"Great hotel - Highly Recommend"
I found this hotel to be excellent. The service staff were some of the most courteous I've encountered anywhere in my many travels. The business center and the gym are not open in the late evenings, but they have always happily opened it up for me, even remembering my name from when I checked in. The rooms were average-sized, the bathrooms were excellent with the beautiful tiled floor and walls, the restaurant was 1st rate, although much overpriced for Sofia's standard of living. The location is superb - a short walk from most historical sites, restaurants, and shopping. I highly recommend it. Additionally, the free city guides in the room, complete with maps and restaurant recommendations were very helpful.
